Sims played college basketball for four seasons at the University of Texas at Austin. He joined the Texas Longhorns for the 2017-2018 season and played through the 2020-2021 season before he declared for the NBA Draft. He was the 58th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft selected by the New York Knicks.
